Patented, intelligent FinnFlow® system for surface scum removal
Finnchain’s scum removal system enables sludge removal from large areas using continuous, natural water flow. The most common applications of the FinnFlow® system are preliminary and secondary sedimentation tanks in which scraper flights transfer the sludge close to the FinnFlow® collector. The water flow transfers the surface scum to a removal pipe, and clean water is transferred to overflow channels. Water movement is regulated at each stage at different water levels. The system works without a motor or electricity. The FinnFlow® system suits all tanks requiring surface scum removal, and the system can be installed to existing tanks.
The President of Finland rewarded the FinnFlow® system with the INNOSUOMI ’08 award for its innovative and eco-friendly design.
The most common applications of the FinnFlow® system are preliminary and secondary sedimentation tanks in which scraper flights transfer the sludge close to the FinnFlow® collector.
The FinnFlow® system collects surface scum to the collector by regulating the water levels. Since it uses a continuous flow, treated clean water comes along with the surface scum.
For best results
The system's intelligent technology directs surface scum to a smaller scum collection box located inside the collector, while transferring the treated water to a removal pipe for clean water via a pipe located at the bottom of the collector. Water movement is regulated at each stage at different water levels.
Biogas production from wastewater sludge
The FinnFlow® system ensures better results with fresher sludge
Wastewater sludge can be used for producing biogas by decomposition, and the produced energy can be utilised in heat production or as fuel. The fresher the sludge is when transferred to the methane tank, the higher the biogas recovery will be. In common surface scum removal systems, surface scum is collected in front of the scum collector to wait for transfer. FinnFlow® immediately transfers surface scum forward, thereby enhancing the recovery of biogas from the sludge.
Undeniable advantages of FinnFlow®
The system works well in wide tanks as well (pipe bending problem is avoided). Reasonable variations in the water level do not disturb the system’s operation because floats adjust FinnFlow® to the tank’s varying water levels.
The FinnFlow® system is an energy-saving solution as it does not require a motor for its automatic operation. The system has only a few moving components, and they have a long service life, so the need for spare parts is minimal.
With small tanks, the FinnFlow® system alone is sufficient to keep the tank surface clean with continuous water flow.
Easy to maintain
The system requires minimal maintenance due to its small number of moving parts. The system has no motor.
